As publishing designers, our experience, technical skills and creative talents merge to provide the perfect composition.
“For many years I worked in-house, first at Lancaster University, then at the University of Bradford producing the undergraduate and postgraduate prospectuses, annual reports, course booklets, academic journals and a host of other publications” says Robin Pritchard, the proprietor and chief designer at Design & Image. “This background stood me in good stead when I set up my own business”.
Our work with Cicerone Press Ltd demonstrates that legacy and our high level of publication design skills. We have worked on numerous walking, cycling, canyoning and mountaineering books over the last 5 years and have adapted to using an XML work-flow now that their books are available in a variety of formats. The printed guidebooks often run to between 100 and 400 pages of text, maps, diagrams, illustration and photographs. Layout is extremely important as these are outdoor adventure activity guidebooks and need to help the user enjoy and safely explore sometimes challenging environments.
Our editorial design work can also be seen on the Over 65 Magazine as well as mail-order catalogues for NDT Mart and Kays Horticultural. The Over 65 Magazine, which ran for 15 editions was an online downloadable PDF document with interactive links to internal and external sources. NDT Mart is a highly specialised international retailer of equipment used in the welding and fabrication industries with a surprising large volume of their sales still coming through the printed catalogue.
